Department of Computer Science & Engineering of PESITM Conducted one week Microsoft sponsored Hands-on workshop and Internship programme on Internet-of-Things (IOT) from 27th July 2015 to 1st August 2015.

The Internet of Things has evolved due to a convergence of multiple technologies, ranging from wireless communication to the Internet and from embedded systems to micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). This means that the traditional fields of embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, control systems, automation (including home and building automation), and others all communicate and contribute to enabling the Internet of Things (IoT). According to leading analysts there will be nearly 25 – 30 billion devices on the Internet of Things by 2020, which can help individuals, businesses, and society on a daily basis.

20 students who were selected based on their performance in the test conducted exposed to the field of IoT. Students had hands-on sessions on embedded devices like Intel Galelio and Raspberry Pi, sensors like accelerometer, motion sensor, temperature sensors, and various softwares required for their integration during the first few days of the workshop. Later, Students developed simple projects on their own based on the exposure they got.

The developed projects were showcased in the college and the work carried out by the students was highly appreciated by Principal Dr. Ashok Kumar T. Dr. Vinay S, Head, Department of Computer Science, informed that, Microsoft has set up Mobile Innovation lab at PESITM, Shivamogga and as the result of this student can build their own smart devices.

Mr. Raghavendra K, Mr. Chethan L S, Mr. Shamanth G S and Mr. Sunil M E, faculties of Computer Science Department organized and conducted this event.
