About EEE

The Department offers B.E, program in Electrical & Electronics Engineering since 2007 with an intake of 60. The B.E. degree course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at PESITM, Shivamogga, imparts a strong foundation in physical and mathematical sciences of electrical machinery, power systems as well as computational methods. The field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering engages in the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism and has resulted in significant inventions ranging from the radio and television to laser and fiber optics. In addition to offering common core subjects, the course also covers basic concepts such as analog systems, digital systems, Power Systems, Optimization, as well as advanced concepts such as signal processing, AI , PLC and Integration of distributed generation.

The Department is also a recognized research center facilitating Ph.D. Research Programme in the area of Power and Energy Engineering since 2016.

The Department is spear headed by innovative thinking of Dr. Om Prakash Yadav, who comes with a total of 15 plus years of experience in core electrical and electronics engineering. The Department currently has 12 faculty members with expertise in diverse areas including Power & Energy Systems, Power Electronics, Computer Application in Industrial Drives and Integration of Renewable Energy Sources. Graduates in Electrical and Electronics Engineering are drivers of technological change and innovation in engineering-based industries. Electrical & Electronics Engineering at PESITM, aims to play an active role in propelling India in its growth trajectory through innovative inter–disciplinary research and educational programs at undergraduate and research levels. The department has its own library with about 700 vital books for the benefit of both students & the staff members.

The graduating students are well placed in Govt. Sectors such as KPCL, KPTCL, ESCOM’s, CPRI, BHEL and other core industries.

Mission

  • Develop as a centre of excellence for Electrical and Electronics Engineering education, emphasing in making students to be more innovative in their approach by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and effective teaching learning process.
  • Contribute to the development of nation by applying their knowledge gained in the thrust areas of power and energy systems.
  • To inculcate value based socially and ethically committed professionals who are able to evolve thoughtfully in response to the needs of the industry, society and the changing world.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
Electrical And Electronics Engineering Graduates within 3-5 years of Graduation should;

  • PEO 1: The ability to use their knowledge acquired in various subjects to analyse, design and implement solutions for complex problems encountered in their professional career
  • PEO 2:The ability to understand the concept of core electrical subjects that will facilitate understanding of new technology.
  • PEO 3:The ability to exhibit professionalism, ethical attitude, communication skills, team work in their profession and adapt to current trends by in lifelong learning.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Graduates Will Have the Ability to;

  • Apply the knowledge to have a foundation in theoretical and practical aspects of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Model, analyse, design and realize physical systems, components and hands on competence in modern engineering tools to process and adapt them in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Communicate and work professionally in order to take up entrepreneurial activities in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and related areas for the benefit of the society

Program Outcomes (POs)

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization for the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with the society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Laboratories

The department has well equipped state-of-the-art electrical machines like Induction motors, DC Motors, Synchronous motors and Transformers, AC and DC servo motor, syncro pair system. The department has well developed Analog Electronics, Microcontroller, Logic Design and Power electronics lab. High Voltage lab is equipped with 60KVA transformer and all relay testing kits. The department maintains a Computer Lab with high configuration computers, MATLAB software package, Simulation Software package, MIPOWER software package for study and analysis of large power systems.
