About ME
Mechanical Engineering (ME) is a very broad field that provides opportunities for interesting and challenging work in every phase of modern technology.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2010 with the vision of to become a Centre of excellence in the field of Mechanical engineering education research and entrepreneurship. The Department has received approval for increase in intake from 60 to 120 from AICTE, New Delhi starting from the academic year 2013-2014. A VTU recognized Research Centre was established during 2017 and many Research scholars are perusing PhD under our Research Centre. For UG programme, the intake for the academic year 2021-22 is 60.
A dedicated team of faculty prepares the students for their successful careers in Mechanical Engineering profession. The Department is housed with state-of-the art laboratories and highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members who always striving to become better in research and academic. A well-equipped laboratories available in the department are utilised for consultancy services as needed by the industries.
Faculty members are publishing high quality research work in Peer reviewed Journals. Every year’s student projects receive financial assistance from KSCST. The department also encourages the Curricular and Co-curricular activities for the students. The department has 6 MOU’s with various industries and Training partners like IMTMA , Shanthal spherocast Pvt. Ltd, Pragati steel Casting Pvt.Ltd, vijaya Technocrat pvt. Ltd, GTTC etc.

Program Outcomes (POs)
- Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization for the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
- The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

1. Laboratories:
Mechanical Engineering Department having four numbers of classrooms measuring 72.735 m2 of carpet area of each classroom and 12 numbers of Laboratories are available in the department. Each laboratory is equipped with state of the art facility and testing instruments. UTM of 60 Tonnes capacity is installed in the Material Testing Lab. CNC Turbo Turn Machine is installed in machine shop lab in addition to this other machining tools are installed in this lab. A Seminar Hall of 120 m2 carpet area with seating capacity for 75 members are available in the department.

The Department has formed a student forum “AIMS” (Association of Innovative Mechanical Students) with the objective to develop the overall skills of every student of the department through active participation.
