The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, PESITM has added one more feather in the crown of PESITM in terms of its National recognition. The National Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Management (NCETEM-2013) during 1-2 March 2013 was a grand success. This was second national conference after the vibrant success of previous conference National Conference on Management & Technology, NCMT-2010, which was the maiden attempt by the college to hold such National Level Conference. The basic objective of the conference was to illustrate the emerging trends in the field of Engineering & Management and to provide a common platform to academicians, industrialists, research scholars and brilliant students of the country to share and exchange their technical knowledge and expertise and further identify newer areas of research and cooperation.
Today’s global marketplace requires individual in the integration of technology and business management; individuals who understand but are firmly grounded in the realities of business decision-making.
PESITM – Shimoga was established in the year 2006 under the inspiring leadership of Dr. M.R. Doreswamy who is the Chairman of the premier PES Group of Institutions. Continuing the successful legacy set by the front running institution of PES in Bangalore, PESITM – Shimoga has been groomed by the efficient value system derived through rich experience in the education sector of the intellectuals within the PES Group. PESITM – Shimoga has grown from strength to strength within a very short duration is currently offering a multitude of courses in Diploma, Under Graduate and Post Graduate degrees in Science, Commerce, Engineering and Management. With the stupendous success achieved in Campus recruitment from the very first batch of Engineering and Management graduates, the Institution has already earned a strong reputation amongst leading employers as a Nodal Centre for recruitments from the Malnad region.
The conference was supported by the PES Trust, Shimoga, who are known as pioneers in the field of education.
The organizing committee has received enormous response from across the country in the form of research papers from highly experienced academicians as well as from young and brilliant students. Participation was from almost all the corners of the country and from reputed academic institutions such as IITs and NIT. Industries such as, LG Software, NTPC, Forbes Group etc. were also participated. It was a tough time to scrutinize from among many good papers. As learnt from the convener Dr. Ravi M. Yadahalli, the organisers received around 250 papers, out of which 180 were accepted after scrutiny. Amongst 180 accepted research papers, 142 were registered for presentation and during the 2 day conference, the research papers were presented through 18 technical sessions. The technical sessions were arranged in parallel to cover all the papers during limited time span. The papers were presented under six sub groups viz, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Basic Science and Management.
Sri B Y Vijeyendra, Joint Treasurer, PES Trust, Shimoga presented his presidential remarks. Prof. K. B. Sinha Former Director, ISI was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker of the conference. He delivered a lecture on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Management quite appropriate to the theme of the conference. During the inaugural function Dr. S. A. Bari, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga was Guest of Honour. Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohan, Principal and Chairman of the conference greeted the delegates with warm welcome and briefed them regarding PESITM. Dr. Ravi M. Yadahalli, Professor & Head-Electronics and Communication Engineering and Convener of the conference provided the brief details of the Conference.
In addition, the conference also included invited lectures on research issues on various sub-themes by renowned speakers, namely; Dr. M. H. Kori is Retired Technical Director, Alcatel-Lucent Technologies India Ltd. Dr. M.H.Kori holds Ph.D from IIT Bombay & has more than 25 years experience in Telecom & IT including research / teaching positions at Bangalore University, IIT Bombay, University of Duisburg and Industry positions like Head of Wireless Communication Division at C-DOT; Head of Telecom & Networking SBU at DSQ Software. He was the Technical Director at Alcatel-Lucent Technologies India involved in research & development in the area Wireless Communications. He was the Head of the Lucent Technologies Hyderabad R&D Unit earlier and Dr. B. Bakkappa Registrar (Evaluation), Davanagere University, Shivagangotri, Davanagere was another eminent professor to give invited talk.
During the valedictory function, Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohan, Principal, PESITM and Chairman, National Conference welcomed the gathering. Dr. B. Bakkappa, Registrar (Evaluation), Davanagere University, Shivagangotri, Davanagere was the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. P. V. Hunagund former Chairman, Department of Research and PG Studies in Applied Electronics, Gulbarga University was the Guest of honor. Smt. Umadevi S Y, Member, Governing Council, PESITM distributed the participation certificates to delegates. The valedictory function ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Ravi M. Yadahalli, Convener for the National Conference.
