“UNIVERSITIES TO BE SOCIETY ORIENTED”, Dr. Veerabhadrappa B.P, Vice Chancellor, Kuvempu University

 “Vedas, Upanishads and Gurukula system play a vital role in Higher education”, stated Dr. Veerabhadrappa B.P, Vice Chancellor, Kuvempu University while inaugurating and delivering his key note address at the one day National conference on “Higher Education in India: Challenges and Opportunities” organized by Prerana Educational and Social Trust (R), PES Institute of Technology & Management & PES Institute of Advanced Management Studies, on 15-11-2019.

Expressing his dismay over the present educational system that is based only on rote memory and examination centric, he appealed to the educationists and curriculum developers to impart education with a vision for the practical implementation of the gained knowledge for the betterment of the society. Only such an educational system would drive out poverty and pave way for an enlightened society, he opined. Further the VC expressed his delight over the Kuvempu University standing in the fore front among the universities in India imparting quality education and meeting all the required criteria. He stressed on the need of bringing about reforms in the Indian education system to meet international standards and adopt digital technology right from the primary to higher education in order to meet the challenges of globalization.

He made a request to PES Trust to join hands with Kuvempu University in establishing a National Level Research Institute in Shivamogga and to conduct many educational programs as it has the world class infrastructure and has made its name in imparting quality education in the state of Karnataka.

He gave a call to all the educational institutions not to see education only as a tool to eradicate poverty but as a source to lead an educative and healthy life to build a strong nation.

Smt. Arunadevi S.Y, Trustee, PES Trust(R) in her presidential address spoke about the importance of implementing the gained knowledge for the welfare of the society. Remembering the contributions of Kanakadasa who was a great poet and visionary in educating the people to lead a harmonious life, she complimented the organizers for conducting the conference on his birth anniversary. She applauded the role of MHRD in inspiring the students to contribute towards the research field which is the foundation of quality education.

Dr R Nagaraja CCA of PES Trust ® welcomed all the dignitaries and introduced the guests to the audience. Dr. Chaithanya Kumar Convener of the conference gave the introductory speech about the conference. Dr. K Sailtha, Principal of PESIAMS proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Akshatha S rendered invocation song while Dr. Likewin Thomas, Assistant Professor anchored the programme.

 Delegates from different parts of the country participated in the one day National conference and exchanged ideas by presenting more than 106 papers.
