About BSc Program

Bachelor of Science programs that combine Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science offer a solid foundation in both fundamental and applied sciences. The course material helps students develop their analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills by combining theoretical knowledge with real-world laboratory experience to create a well-rounded academic experience.
Students acquire a thorough understanding of Physics and Chemistry as they investigate scientific concepts and how they are used in daily life. Mathematics enhances logical thinking

and problem-solving abilities, while Computer Science equips students with the programming abilities, data structures, and computational techniques necessary to succeed in today's technological world.
In accordance with state educational requirements and evolving industry demands, the program, which is affiliated to Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, prepares graduates for high-paying positions in research, technology, education, and other scientific fields. It also offers competitive tests, a variety of science and technology-related employment paths, and opportunities for further education.

About Department

Established in 2019, the Department of Science initially launched a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program focused on Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science (PMCs). Affiliated with Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, the department ensures alignment with state educational standards. To adapt to evolving industry trends and broaden academic offerings, the curriculum was later expanded to include Chemistry, providing students with a comprehensive and well-rounded foundation across key scientific disciplines. The program integrates traditional scientific fields with exposure to emerging technologies, preparing students for successful careers in industry, research and advanced technology sectors.

Program Education Outcomes (PEOs)

  • PEO1 : Foundational Mastery:- Graduates will apply foundational knowledge of scientific principles to solve complex problems in various scientific, technological and professional domains.
  • PEO2 : Career Excellence:- Achieve successful careers in academia, industry or entrepreneurship, leveraging scientific skills and critical thinking to contribute meaningfully to their fields.
  • PEO3 : Leadership and Communication:- Exhibit leadership qualities and effective communication skills to manage projects, collaborate with diverse teams and convey complex ideas to a broad audience.
  • PEO4 : Sustainability and Global Perspective:- Promote sustainable practices and demonstrate awareness of global and societal challenges, applying science to create environmentally and socially responsible solutions.

  • PO1 : Disciplinary Knowledge: Bachelor degree in Science is the culmination of in-depth knowledge of core concepts like Algebra, Calculus, Real Analysis, Mechanics, Optics, Nuclear Physics, Analytical, Organic, Inorganic, Chemistry and its application and several other branches of pure and applied sciences.
  • PO2 : Communication Skills: Ability to communicate various concepts effectively using examples and their geometrical visualization.
  • PO3 : Critical Thinking and Analytical Reasoning: The students undergoing this program acquire ability of critical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • PO4 : Practical Skills: To develop in students a range of practical skills so that they can understand and assess risks and work safely in a laboratory.
  • PO5 : Problem Solving: Knowledge gained by the student's through this program develops an ability to analyze the problems.
  • PO6 : Research Related Skills: The program enables the capability of inquiring about appropriate questions relating to the core concepts.
  • PO7 : Information Literacy: On completion, this program enables the learner to use adequate terminology with respect to subjects.
  • PO8 : Self-directed Learning: The student completing this program will develop ability of working independently.
  • PO9 : Moral and Ethical Awareness: The student completing this program will develop an ability to identify unethical behavior.
  • PO10 : Lifelong Learning: This program provides self-directed learning and lifelong learning skills.

From 20th to 22nd August 2024, the Department of Physics and IQAC, PESIAMS, in association with Varnaaz and Tare Zameen Par (ISRO’s Official Space Tutor), organized a three-day Digital Mobile Planetarium Show at Prerana Convention Hall, PES Campus. The event featured 31 immersive shows, benefiting 1,415 students from middle schools to PU colleges in Shivamogga. A science corner showcased telescopes, allowing students to explore optical resolution and magnification.
