About the Department

Mechanical Engineering (ME) is an incredibly diverse field that offers captivating and demanding opportunities across every facet of modern technology. At the heart of this exciting domain is the Department of Mechanical Engineering at PESITM.Our journey began in 2010 when we initiated our undergraduate program with an intake of 60 students. Since then, we've been committed to nurturing young minds and preparing them for a fulfilling career in mechanical engineering. In 2017, we achieved another significant milestone by establishing a VTU recognized Research Centre. This center has become a hub of innovation, attracting numerous research scholars who are actively pursuing their Ph.D. degrees.

Research is at the core of what we do. Our faculty is at the forefront of cutting-edge research initiatives, actively participating in various sponsored projects funded by prestigious organizations such as AICTE, VTU, VGST, KSCST, and more. These projects not only advance our understanding of mechanical engineering but also address real-world challenges, driving innovation and progress. Our faculty members are not only educators but also prolific researchers. They have contributed significantly to the field through research articles published in reputable journals, the granting of patents, and the authorship of books and book chapters. This commitment to knowledge creation ensures that our students are exposed to the latest advancements in mechanical engineering. In addition to our academic and research endeavors, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at PESITM is dedicated to making a tangible difference in rural areas. We actively secure financial assistance to conduct impactful Rural Development Activities, aiming to create positive change and improve the quality of life in these communities.

  • Nanotechnology Lab has specialized equipments like High energy Ball-Mill, Ultrasonicator, Universal Testing Machine, Computerized Pin-On-Disc wear testing machine, Bottom pour stir casting setup, CNC Machine etc.
  • The Department has highly motivated faculty members who, besides their regular activities of teaching, do research and interact with industries for training and consultancy work.
  • The Department has formed “MECH-INNOVA” Mechanical Engineering Forum to accelerate academic activities of students and faculty.
  • The “MECH-INNOVA” is regularly organizing technical activities like seminars, student competitions and Industrial visits at regular intervals for the benefit of the students.
  • Indian Institute of Foundrymen (IIF) student Chapter is also running in the department and organizing many events on regular basis. In addition to scientific and engineering proficiency, we infuse in our students the values of professionalism, leadership, entrepreneurship, and ethics.

Computer Aided Machine Drawing Lab:-
This lab will provide knowledge of thread forms, fasteners, keys, joints and couplings. Students will understand and interpret drawings of machine components leading to preparation of assembly drawings manually and using CAD packages, also acquire the knowledge of limits, tolerance and fits and indicate them on machine drawings.

PESITM-ADNANO

Center for Nanotechnology Research

PESITM- Adnano Center for Nanotechnology was established in 2022 at the PESITM campus in collaboration with Adnano Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Shivamogga, with an aim of conducting Advanced Research in Nanomaterials, Nanotechnology and Advanced Material Technology. The Center has well-equipped equipment’s for synthesis and characterization supervised by experienced faculties under the leadership of Dr. Girisha L, Prof. and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, with an aim to contribute towards advancement of science and technology and make an effort to bridge the vast gap between industry-academia. The leading area of research includes nanomaterials, nanotechnology, nanocomposites, nanoelectronics, nanofabrication, and nano-coatings. In addition to research, the centre also conducts training and awareness programmes to students on recent trends and developments of Nanotechnology. The centre is undertaking research and development projects from various funding agencies and is offering consultancy services to research projects.
